The School Safety Program in the Hazelwood School District is comprised of:
School Safety Department
Twenty two full time and two part time officers are charged with the responsibility of patrolling school campus sites, controlling access to the various campuses by monitoring vehicle traffic and registering visitors. These officers’ staff security monitoring stations to monitor strategically placed cameras, patrol hallways, assist administration with supervision, and enforce parking rules/regulations. Quarterly safety inspections of the buildings and grounds for unsafe and hazardous conditions are also conducted by these Safety Officers.
School Resource Officers serve as a problem-solving resource for the students, faculty and staff of the district. Provide a liaison between the police departments and other community agencies that offer assistance to the educational community.
Accident Prevention
Preventing accidents by promoting safety among staff and students is enhanced by the following committees and programs:
School Safety Management Team

Review school emergency plans and conduct safety drills, i.e., fire, tornado, earthquake, intruder, shelter in place

Coordinate safety training for staff, perform daily building/grounds inspections and initiate corrective actions of hazardous conditions.
District Safety Management Team
Injury Prevention Committee

Coordinated with a focus on accident prevention through employee safety training. This committee identifies hazards, unsafe work practices, and reviews accident reports. Comprised of the Transportation Director, Child and Nutrition Director, Maintenance Director, Lead Nurse, Support Service-Human Resource Director, Custodial Director, School Safety Director and School Administrator.
